Very few mountains in the world can compete with the magnificence of Mount Kailash (6714m), the celebrated Holy peak in western Tibet.

Hindus worship Kailash as the spiritual centre of the world.  Lord Shiva, one of the most powerful deities in Hinduism, sits in perpetual meditation and is accompanied by his wife, Parvati, goddess of power and love.

Tibetan Buddhists worship Mount Kailash as Kang Rinpoche or the precious jewel of snow. Mount Kailash is also observed as the home of Demchok, a multi-armed, enraged deity, and his consort, Dorje Phakmo.

For Bonpos (followers of the Bon religion) Mt. Kailash is considered as the seat of the world where the founder Tonpa Shenrab is said to have descended from heaven and for the Jains it is Mount Ashtapad where the noble prophet Rishabha achieved moksha or spiritual liberation.
